JOB DESCRIPTION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Title: Executive Director: The Salvadoran-American Leadership and Education Fund
(SALEF).

POSITION SUMMARY:

SALEF is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) to assume overall management of the organization, including fiscal oversight, supervision of staff, implementation of programmatic goals and objectives, fundraising and grant management, and building and maintaining a network with federal, state, and local officials. The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors, leads a staff of 5 individuals as well as hundreds of volunteers, and manages an annual budget of approximately $1.3 million. The ED works with the Board of Directors to determine vision and overall strategy for the organization; and is responsible for leading and developing staff; establishing mutually beneficial community partnerships; cultivating individual and institutional donors; overseeing financial management and budgeting; ensuring the overall quality of programs and events; promoting an organizational culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, and serving as the spokesperson for the organization. This Leadership position requires that the
ED be knowledgeable about the needs of the Salvadoran American and Latino communities in
Los Angeles and understand the socio-political climate that affects them. The ED must have the ability to manage, persuade, inspire, and motivate individuals and groups.

Responsibilities for SALEF’s Executive Director:

▪ Formulates and directs the implementation of general administrative polices for programs.

Participates in direct program activities as required by SALEF mission. Insures close monitoring, supervision and evaluation of SALEF’s programs, activities, effectiveness and compliance to board of directors-authorized and approved programs.

▪ Develops and maintains close working relationships with federal, state, and local public officials, executives of voluntary agencies, community leaders and other key representatives serving the community. Spearheads and maintains collaborations with other ethnic, social, and civic and social justice organizations in the region.

▪ Educates, advises and builds relationships with relevant local, statewide and national public agencies and private organizations to advocate and advance the Salvadoran representation and empowerment, and leadership and issues related to SALEF’s mission.

▪ Fosters an organizational culture that attracts, engages, motivates, and retains a diverse team of competent, qualified staff and volunteers. Effectively collaborates with the staff to improve organizational efficiency and capacity to achieve all programmatic goals. Delegates administrative responsibilities as needed and as delineated in the organization’s structure

▪ Oversees and ensures timely submission, reporting and implementation of federal, state and private foundation grants and contracts and builds and maintains relationships with grant-making individuals and organizations. Overall campaign and/or fundraising management and organization including pipelines, prospect tracking, strategy, task assignment and maintenance of timelines. Develops annual operating plans for fundraising, and tracks progress against measurable targets.

▪ Keeps the board of directors informed of the status of program operations, proposed operational and major procedural changes.

Qualifications:

Minimum of five years of working with non-profit organizations in leadership roles and with the
Latino community. Demonstrated experience in the field of Education and experience with immigrant communities and constituents of diverse background such as youth and adult learners is desired.

Must have excellent administrative and management skills to engage daily with staff and constituents. Must have demonstrated experience with financial management and exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.

Must have experience managing a varied portfolio of donors and/or grants, soliciting gifts and financial awards ranging from four figures all the way up to six figures. Particularly, must have grant management experience that includes demonstrated success in grant writing.

Must have ability to work effectively with a diverse range of civic, political, non-profit organizations, and individuals.

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience in public policy, advocacy or nonprofit management.

Experience with the legislative, administrative and legal process and policy development preferred.
Bilingual, English/Spanish, preferred.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
