About the Opportunity

Northeastern University’s Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship Program is a two-year fellowship designed to advance the education and training of Pharm.D. graduates in various areas of industry pharmacy including regulatory affairs, medical information/affairs, patient safety, outcomes research, and many other areas. The program is a collaboration between Northeastern University and biopharmaceutical industry partners.

Our program provides a dynamic academic environment offering fellows the opportunity for a wide breadth of experiences:

  • Develop teaching skills through participation in our Teaching and Learning Seminar series
  • Facilitate small and large group didactic education in partnership with a faculty mentor
  • Create, present, and publish scholarly research through collaborative industry and university relationships
  • Engage with faculty who participate in various interdisciplinary
  • Network with area residents and other Northeastern fellows via professional development programs, teaching seminars, and participation on fellowship committees

In partnership with Northeastern University, Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is offering a two-year US Medical Affairs PharmD fellowship based in Boston, MA.

The goal of the Global Rare Diseases unit is to ensure equal access so as many people as possible can experience their most fulfilling life. The unit collaborates with the rare disease community around the globe to bring voice to underserved people in the health care system. Chiesi Global Rare Diseases has successfully developed orphan disease products in the disease states of alpha-mannosidosis, ADA-SCID, and thalassemia. Additionally, Chiesi Global Rare Diseases recently acquired three orphan disease products – metreleptin (Myalept®); octreotide (Mycapssa®); and lomitapide (Juxtapid®).
 

Responsibilities:
 

North America Medical Affairs:

The Medical Affairs fellowship at Chiesi Global Rare Diseases will offer an opportunity for fellows to develop a proficient understanding of North American Medical Affairs, including analyzing, developing and delivering scientifically-balanced data to healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes. Throughout the fellowship, the fellow will engage in projects to learn and understand disease states and master product data while gaining experience in various functions within Medical Affairs. 
 

The fellow will develop an understanding of industry regulations and guidance governing clinical research, medical communications and interactions, and non-promotional and promotional materials by working in cross-functional teams outside of Medical Affairs including Legal/Compliance, Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Clinical Development and Regulatory.  The fellow will also participate in key Medical Affairs activities including the following:

  • Contribute to planning, developing, and updating scientific communication materials for the Field Medical team and other uses, e.g., Global Scientific Platforms, Medical booth materials
  • Provide support for publications by identifying data gaps, generating publication concepts, and executing product publication plans
  • Collaborate with the medical director, marketing, legal, and regulatory teams to review promotional materials for scientific accuracy
  • Participate in collaborative research activities by reviewing proposals, supporting site recruitment and education, and evaluating study conduct and data analysis
  • Engage in the exchange of data and knowledge with both internal and external audiences in a scientific and balanced manner as they relate to clinical research, disease state awareness, pipeline assets, and therapeutic trends
  • Work with the Field Medical team to gain an understanding of thought leader engagement and territory management by developing and fostering relationships with key HCPs, researchers, and institutions
  • Collect and analyze insights from Field Medical and congresses to appropriately inform and prioritize activities to meet the needs of the scientific community
  • Staff medical booths at scientific congresses

Qualifications:

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution, eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts.

Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and leadership skills, ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of projects at the industry site and Northeastern.
