The Lab for Language Experience and Acquisition Research at NYU (LEARN Lab), directed by Dr. Sudha Arunachalam, has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral research associate to begin in Fall 2023. The postdoc will be involved in federally-funded research on language development in children ages 6 and under, including typically-developing children and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The overarching goal of the research is to examine children's abilities to learn new words and to process language in real-time using experimental and corpus methods. The position entails designing and carrying out experimental studies and corpus analyses, overseeing research assistants, analyzing data, and working with Dr. Arunachalam on manuscripts and other writing. The postdoc will receive training in research as well as in professional development skills that will support advancement to the next career stage. The initial appointment will be for one year, with possible renewal for additional years. Salary will be commensurate with NIH postdoctoral funding levels.

In general, the job duties for this position require minimal in-person interaction and can be performed remotely >60% of the time.

 

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 - $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Required

  • A doctoral degree in communication sciences and disorders or linguistics

  • Coursework in syntax/semantics

  • Experience with young children

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Strongly preferred (at least one of the following)

  • Clinical or research experience with children with ASD
