Job Summary

Employee is under general supervision and performs work in sorting and distributing mail, front retail window service, internal functional operations and other related work as required.

Position is contingent upon sufficient funding.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to check packages for proper postage, proper packaging and addresses according to the USPS regulations.

  • Ability to follow procedures, software and regulations required to work in a USPS Contract Postal Unit to include ability to operate office equipment such as scales, pallet jacks and barcode scanners.

  • Ability to use a computer and standard office software to navigate online systems, office computer programs, electronic document storage and use the Postal Service website.

  • Ability to collect and compile statistical data, enter data into Excel spreadsheets used to maintain ongoing postal metrics. - - Ability to maintain and process a variety of records: electronic and manual file systems, database files requiring classification and a compilation of varied information. Ability to learn and follow all USPS regulations pertaining to protecting the sanctity of the mail and understand the basic requirements pertaining to possible postal violations.

  • Ability to maintain money drawer and stamp stock and balance by recording all transactions; make required adjustments to properly balance each day and follow procedures for safeguarding the funds at all times.

  • Ability to to understand and provide assistance to the public in complying with federal regulations of Postal Service for both domestic and international mail.

  • Ability to process, sort and distribute all types of mail to the appropriate distribution methods.

  • Ability to understand and be able to communicate business mailing standards and provide information to mailers.

  • Ability to sell and collect payment for products such as stamps, prepaid mail envelopes, and money orders.

  • Ability to handle confidential documents in a responsible manner. Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately.

  • Ability to display strong service orientation skills, ability to multi-task, display sound judgement and decision making to resolve problems.

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma and a valid driver's license are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • USPS Mail Design Professional training,

  • Bulk mail processing and/or postal retail sales experience,

  • Passport Acceptance Experience,

  • 2 years of college education preferred,

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel,

  • Graphic Arts and wide format printing experience
