Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Assistant Professor of Accounting for our AACSB accredited business school in Rochester, NY. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and contributing to the overall mission of the business school. A strong focus on student development is a must for this position.

The Department of Accounting & Finance, School of Business, St. John Fisher University, Rochester, New York, is seeking a full time Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Accounting, starting September 2023. The University is composed of five schools: the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Business; the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education; the Wegmans School of Nursing; and the Wegmans School of Pharmacy. Each school is accredited by regional, national, and/or international accrediting bodies.
Accredited by AACSB International, the School of Business (SOB) at St. John Fisher University offers majors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and Human Resource Management, as well as an MBA. The SOB has seen enrollment growth in recent years. Currently, approximately 550 undergraduates are enrolled in these majors and an additional 60 students are enrolled in the MBA program, which offers an accounting concentration. With an emphasis on producing graduates who are Day 1 Ready, the reputation of the SJF Accounting Program is known both regionally and nationally.

Job Responsibilities
    • Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, including financial accounting, managerial accounting, and analytics.
    • Engage in scholarly research and publish articles in academic journals.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, advising and mentoring them as they progress through their studies.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and the overall quality of the business school.
    • Collaborate with other faculty members, staff, and alumni to promote the mission of the business school and build relationships with the business community.
    • Provide service to the department, the university, and the professional and surrounding communities.

Education / Experience
Required:
    • A Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting or a closely related field is required.
    • Successful candidates will demonstrate the capacity to produce and publish original scholarship in peer reviewed journals, law reviews, or other publications which support classification as “Scholarly Academic” under the guidelines of AACSB International. The requirements for scholarship must be met and maintained for the School’s AACSB accreditation.
    • A strong commitment to teaching excellence, including: experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; teaching online; and incorporating data analytics into their courses.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in the field of accounting.
    • A passion for student development and a commitment to advising and mentoring students.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

 

Preferred: CPA, CMA, or practical experience in related fields of business.
