Directs the health science education programs of the college including Vocational Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, RN-BSN, EMT/Paramedicine, Radiology, Dental Assisting and Medical Laboratory Technology.


  • 30% Directs departmental personnel: hires, orients, trains, schedules, and evaluates Health Science Program Directors, Advisors, Administrative Assistants and Health Science staff.

  • 25% Creates and develops new programs for Health professional studies; analyzes trends and keeps abreast of demographics and strategies that can be a threat or opportunity for the College.

  • 10% Develops new curriculum and reviews and revises existing curriculum with faculty, considering student needs and available resources; makes recommendations for improvement; supervises program reviews.

  • 10% Supervises marketing activities.

  • 10% Plans and manages departmental budgets.

  • 5% Develops academic policies and programs for department.

  • 5% Participates in college-wide strategic planning activities, especially as related to instructional matters.

  • 5% Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Ensures high quality adult education programs.

  • Develops new program initiatives.

  • Develops, supports and evaluates adjunct faculty.

  • Provides effective leadership within the educational community.

  • Ensures performance reviews are completed within two weeks of the due date.

  • Ensures effective communication within the College and with the external environment.

  • Ensures successful accreditation; and facilitates activities as the unit level to seamlessly integrate department with all college goals.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of student records.

  • Adheres to all laws and regulations related to higher education and Texas Board of Nursing requirements.

  • This position requires a Master's degree or a specialized certification program taking one year or more of coursework beyond a Bachelor's degree.

  • Requires at least ten years of similar or related experience.

  • A minimum of three years in academic administration, with experience in adult program preferred.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.

  • Mature leadership skills.

  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact.

  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of personal or sensitive nature.  Work may involve motivating or influencing others.

  • Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
