Description of Work Unit
The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University is a large academic and research department in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. We currently have twenty faculty members, ninety graduate students, over seventy full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows, and an outstanding and dedicated support staff, that comprise one of the most research-active units at the university. The department conducts more than $14M in externally sponsored research each year and is nationally ranked near the top of its field.

Position Summary
  • The Human Resources Administrative position serves as a strategic advisor to the department Human Resources Generalist for both human resources and equal opportunity.
  • This position will serve as a subject matter expert on all personnel matters of the department and serves in an advisory capacity to the Human Resources Generalist.
  •  The individual in this position will need to possess a wide-ranging knowledge of varied human resource practices, policies and regulations within the university system. 
  • The Human Resources Generalist position also demonstrates fundamental knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations, as well as the ability to interpret and implement university regulations and policies for overall compliance.

 
  • This position reports to the Manager of Business Operations.

Position Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with HR or payroll related systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and support of a diverse employment environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • HRCM Certification
  • Professional HR membership and/or certifications(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, and/or equal opportunity administration in higher education, government and/or private industry.
  • Experience with Oracle, Time Clock Plus Manager and the Talent Management System.
  • Experience working with various employee groups at Colorado State University including hourly employees, faculty, state classified, graduate students and administrative professionals
  • Experience working with university policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Federal and State law.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment regulations and management practices.
  • Work experience in a customer service environment.
