Job Description


The Origins Laboratory of the Department of the Geophysical Sciences and the Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago seeks applicants for a postdoctoral scholar position in isotopic geochemistry-cosmochemistry. Although different backgrounds will be considered, experience in clean laboratory procedures and multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) techniques is especially desirable. The postdoc could work on any of the multiple research topics that are currently studied in our laboratory, including igneous processes responsible for enrichments in critical elements of magmas and minerals, origin of the depletion in moderately volatile elements of planetary bodies, iron biogeochemistry, studies of asteroid samples returned to Earth by space missions, search and quantification of extinct radionuclides in meteorites, inference on planetary genetics and mixing in the solar nebula from isotopic anomalies, secular changes in the nature of  rocks exposed to weathering on continents, and several other research topics not listed here.

Completion of the Ph.D. is required. Initial appointment is for one year, renewable up to 2 times contingent upon good progress. Applications must be received by October 7, 2023; applications received after this date may be considered if the position is not filled.
