The Department of Education in the School of Education & Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles announces an opening for an Assistant Project Scientist.
The Assistant Project Scientist will work closely with Dr. Sandra Graham to analyze data from two of her longitudinal studies funded by the National institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The position is for data analysis and manuscript preparation, not new data collection. This is a full-time position requiring the successful candidate to also work closely with Dr. Graham's doctoral students as they develop ideas for their dissertation using these longitudinal data sets.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct intensive longitudinal analyses of existing data from Dr. Sandra Graham's Middle School Diversity Project (MSDP) and High School Diversity Project (HSDP): two longitudinal studies on the psychosocial benefits and challenges of school racial/ethnic diversity
  • Develop new research questions related to the topics of school diversity and racial disparities in psychosocial adjustment and achievement
  • Collaborate with other faculty members in the divisions of Human Development & Psychology and Social Research Methodology in the department of Education.
  • Mentor doctoral students on their theses and dissertations.
  • Take the lead on at least three manuscripts for publication.
  • Attend major professional conferences in educational and/or developmental psychology.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in developmental psychology, educational psychology, or related fields.
  • At least 4 years of postdoctoral experience conducting and/or analyzing school-based research
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Interest in studying racial/ethnic diversity in urban middle schools and/or high schools
  • Strong writing skills
    Advanced statistical skills and experience in the following areas:
  • Intensive longitudinal analysis.
  • Multilevel analysis.
  • Person-centered approaches such as latent class analysis
    Expected Start Date: October 10, 2024
    The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment (See Table 37-B). The salary range for this position and target salary range for this position is $68,400-$75,800.
