- Position Summary
The Student Success Coach is a dynamic change agent who develops positive and empowering relationships with students, designs and promotes engaging programming, and provides daily student support to a Pathways Center ? each one a magnetic hub for student success. Through these endeavors, the Student Success Coach has significant accountability in sustaining the Colleges focus on student learning and achievement.
- Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Manage and mentor a caseload of assigned students through appreciative, positive, and responsive relationships, proactively monitoring student progress toward academic and career goals, intervening, as necessary
Assist students via scheduled appointments, drop-in visits, and email correspondence
Co-construct appropriate academic plans with students, including short-term and long-term course selection
Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student
Initiate referrals to faculty, academic program chairs/coordinators, or other academic resources as needed
Empower and encourage students to advocate for their success academically, personally, and professionally
Assist students in gaining or improving the critical skills needed for success, including goal setting, development of study skills, time management, balancing the demands of college with work and life, and career planning
Conceptualize, implement, and assess retention initiatives
Provide daily oversight to a Pathways Center, maintaining a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for student interactions
Develop, promote, and facilitate workshops and events within the Centers, designed to assist students with their transition to college, help them to foster a sense of belonging at the College, explore academic and career possibilities, and connect them with campus support services
Collaborate with College offices, faculty, and other stakeholders to schedule and promote a variety of other programming within the Pathways Centers, drawing students into the Centers to engage in valuable educational and co-curricular opportunities
Engage in cross-collaboration among Pathways Centers to review and assess student support, events, and services
Work closely with Pathways Center student employees, providing daily direction, as needed
Assist in new student on-boarding, including both on-campus and on-line modes of New Student Orientation (NSO)
Participate in MCC committees
Work collaboratively with others (e.g. students, colleagues, stakeholders) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
- Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution
One year of related experience (e.g. working in an educational environment and/or with stakeholders serving students, etc.)
A valid state-issued drivers license
