POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking candidates for tenure-track positions at all ranks who work on either clinical and basic science or both related to aging, neuroscience/ psychiatric, epidemiology, public health, metabolic and heart diseases, pre-term birth, infectious diseases, immune functions, nutrition, microbiome, metabolomics, proteomics, multi-omics, data science, and statistical modeling. Investigators with a focus area on microbiome and metabolomics will be given preference.

Successful candidates for these positions are expected to have the potential to develop, a nationally recognized, competitively funded research program and participate in graduate/medical student education and mentoring. Successful candidates will be provided with dry and wet laboratory space at the USF and be placed in a home department at the USF Morsani College of Medicine. Based on qualifications, the home department may be Molecular Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Pediatrics, or other relevant departments. Successful candidates will be offered institutional salary support commensurate with experience and highly competitive start-up packages that promote success. USF Health, specifically the Center for Microbiome Research and Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair provides an ideal environment for young investigators for mentoring by easily integrating ongoing clinical and basic science programs, as well as senior investigators for various collaborative opportunities. For example, our study like the Microbiome in Aging of Gut and Brain (MiaGB) consortium is readily available for new candidates for sample, data, and investigations to integrate and develop ancillary studies. USF Health has various nationally recognized programs and institutes like Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, Heart Institute, Microbiome Institute, Moffit Cancer Center, Tampa General Hospital, School of Aging, and many more which can be leveraged for a highly collaborative environment.

Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher level administrator of a State university.  Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.  Responsible for academic advising and related activities.  May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
RESPONSIBILITES

Teaching Duties:  
Provide didactic and bench-side teaching to undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.  Provide departmental or college-wide seminars.

Research Duties:
Perform translational research in the area of aging, cognitive, neuroscience, nutrition, microbiome, immunology, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, pre-ter, birth, infectios diseases, epidemiology, public health, transcriptomics, metabolomics, protemomics, multi-omics, data science and statistical modeling.  Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present research at externla scientific conferences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.  Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of choice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE

Ph.D. in aging, cognitive, neuroscience, psychiatry, nutrition, data science, epidemiology, and microbiome-related field, with research experience, established by way of peer-reviewed publications, in the area of aging-related disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and other neurogenerative disorders, metabolic, cardiovascular, senescence, and other aspects of aging biology. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training and a strong publication record.
