POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager – Cashier's Office, the Cashier 3 will be responsible for for completing cashiering functions within Administrative Services of South Seattle College. This position receives and disburses funds; records monetary transactions; verifies daily records of receipts; consolidates cash receipts and deposits, maintains control records of receipts and disbursements transfers funds; prepares and inputs data to computer. A key component of this position is the ability to receive and accurately record payment for tuition and fees, parking, and other student-related payments. Complex problem solving along with positive customer service practices to ensure customer service excellence, is number one priority to students, departments and community members. This position may require evening hours and some travel between campuses to provide additional Cashiering support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs work involving receipt of and accountability for funds and maintains control records of cash receipts and disbursements.

  • Inputs financial data to student accounts; maintains student account and records.

  • Provides crucial, quality customer service function, including student account reconciliations and assistance to all campus departments with cashiering needs, questions about campus procedures and environment and assists by answering inquiries and providing information.

  • Maintains records, compiles data, and oversees preparation or reports.

  • Operates campus cashiering system (FMS) components while following internal control policies and procedures to ensure the safety of College funds. Maintains filing system to ensure integrity of records of financial transactions.

  • Makes cash and student account adjustments.

  • Maintains an individually assigned cash drawer, counts daily and maintains and reconciles change funds to ensure accountability.

  • Balances and closes daily cash receipts and batches in preparation for bank deposit.

  • Employs strict adherence to FERPA regulations.

  • Performs backup functions to Cashier 4, processing payments and refunds through the College cashiering system and the District's web system; the campus Automatic Payment Plan system (FACTS).

  • Reviews concurrent student enrollment issues to ensure accuracy of charges and refunds on student accounts.

  • Serves as liaison for parking-related questions and issues.

  • Answers telephone and handles communication for Cashier's Office; provides information to students and general public.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of cashiering processes, including reconciliation of cash receipts on a daily basis and

  • balancing cash receipts to a daily deposit. Implementing back up receipting process, when necessary.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, while exhibiting patience, objectivity and understanding.

  • Recognize various problem situations and provide support if necessary with past due accounts and

  • initiating billing process, and monitoring hold on customer accounts.

  • Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and

  • abilities.

  • High school diploma or GED and two years' experience in Cashiering or related field.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Proprietary Cashiering systems in FMS and interfaces with SMS and SFA systems, in a

  • higher education setting.

  • Work with change and frequent interruptions and also work independently and, as a team member.

  • Able to multi-task.

  • Knowledge of internal controls and cashiering related equipment, with demonstrated competency in

  • computer and keyboarding.

  • Ability to execute credit card transactions on electronic terminal and use of telephone and email to

  • communicate clearly.
