Job Description

We are excited to announce the opening of the recruitment of the UCLA Immunogenetics Fellowship Training Program offered by the UCLA Immunogenetics Division, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.

The UCLA Immunogenetics Center Director Trainee Program is an American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) accredited HLA laboratory director training program. The fellowship provides two-year training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics with the primary goal of providing trainees with the necessary knowledge, experience and skills to fulfill the responsibilities of a histocompatibility director.  The goals of the fellowship program are to provide:

1) Advanced training: Providing advanced training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics using cutting-edge diagnostic techniques.

2) Clinical consultation: Offering training in clinical consultation and understanding of the clinical aspects of the patient populations served by the laboratory.

3) Laboratory management: Providing training in principles of laboratory management.

4)  Certification Preparation: Equipping trainees with the knowledge and experience to sit for the American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI).

The fellowship program is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious director-training programs in the field. Throughout the program, fellows will work closely under the direct guidance of the ASHI-qualified clinical laboratory directors. They will learn a full range of techniques including flow cytometry, solid phase HLA and non-HLA antibody testing, crossmatching, immune phenotyping and antigen-specific responses, and molecular HLA typing using next-generation sequencing technology. Additionally, the fellows will become proficient at integrating specialized testing into diagnostic decision-making and performing clinical case reviews. Research opportunities in both basic and translational clinical studies in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics are available in collaboration with the laboratory directors.

Completion of this post-doctoral fellowship training program will provide the trainee with two years of invaluable education and experience, with fulfillment of the requirements needed to be a qualified histocompatibility director under CLIA/CMS, United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) and ASHI standards. UCLA Immunogenetics Division has a proven track record of providing excellent mentorship and has success of its trainees in the past decade.
