Title: Donor Relations Representative

Division: Resourcing and Engagement

Department: Donor Relations

Function: To help ensure the continued financial growth and stability of Mennonite Mission Network by expanding the donor base through a program of database phone calling and extensive follow up. Also responsible for an assigned territory to develop relationships and achieve contributions from individual donors.

FTE: 1.0


Supervised by/reports to; Donor Relations Director

Work teams/role: Donor Relations team member


  1. Cultivate Donors

    1. Develop and coordinate with the Director of Donor Relations an outbound phone call program with the purpose of growing and diversifying our donor base, cultivating donors among growing church constituencies, reconnecting with program alumni and enhancing our constituent outreach. Responsible for follow up activity generated from phone contacts. The goal is approximately 1000 phone calls annually.

    2. Responsible for an assigned territory to achieve 80 face-to-face visits annually with potential and established donors.

    3. Develop and deepen trusting relationships with individual donors demonstrating a keen sense of curiosity about each, seeking to learn what compels each to invest or increase their investment in mission.

    4. Develop individual strategies for each donor, with the intention of growing, stewarding, and retaining each donor’s giving

    5. Consistently meet or exceed monthly goals for phone, personal, visit, and written contacts

    6. Display discretion, good judgement, and be a positive surrogate for the agency when phoning and meeting in person with donors and constituents.

    7. Acknowledge contributions promptly and appropriately for the donor and the gift.

    8. In collaboration with Church Relations representatives, be available for meetings with pastors and congregations.

  1. Coordinate Strategy

    1. Create and execute an annual plan in conjunction with the Director of Donor Relations to meet contact and financial goals

    2. Evaluate travel plans in order to meet with donors in the most efficient and productive way, prioritizing visits based on donor capacity and relationship.

    3. Analyze and regularly adjust fundraising strategy through use of donor database

  1. Collaborate as Part of a Team

    1. Participate in visioning with the development team on overall development strategy by attending team meetings

    2. Communicate effectively with other divisions to further the goals of the agency

    3. Represent Mission Network’s interests in meetings with churches and pastors, as needed

    4. Work on special projects and work teams as assigned

  1. Regularly acknowledge contributions

    1. Sign receipts for gifts

    2. Make calls to first time donors

    3. Enter notes in database in a timely manner

    4. Regularly thank donors with cards, especially at the end of the year

  5. Has achieved a bachelor’s degree. A major in a business-related field is preferred.

  6. Experience in denominational fundraising is preferred.

  7. Compassionate and positive. Willing to share the load.

  8. Able and willing to travel approximately 40 to 50 days per year. (May include staff and board meetings, convention, continuing education, development visits, visits to congregations)

  9. Works independently, with initiative, decisiveness and good judgment.

  10. Able to manage schedule and record keeping details independently.

  11. Computer proficiency. Knowledge of spreadsheets and databases helpful.

  12. Willingness to be flexible in work schedule
