Corteva Agriscience has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Synthetic Chemist located in Indianapolis, IN. We are looking for scientists who can work as part of a multidisciplinary team to discover and exploit leads in our Discovery effort. It is an opportunity to be a part of a group that is fervently focused on enriching the R&D pipeline with crop protection solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving projects in our discovery pipeline by designing and synthesizing novel organic compounds for crop protection, pest and vegetation management in a collaborative effort with biologists, computational chemists, formulation chemists, regulatory sciences, intellectual property and numerous other disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in cross-functional teams to meet both technical and strategic goals of the discovery chemistry organization.

  • Proactively identify and address synthetic challenges to enable efficient SAR exploration and develop novel chemistries when needed.

  • Work on diverse chemistries and design, synthesize, isolate and characterize novel molecules to meet project needs.

  • Keep current with latest developments in chemistry literature, technology and competitive landscape and implement actions that will benefit Corteva.

  • Understand biological testing cascades for different product concepts, analyze biological data and drive structure activity relationship (SAR).

  • Collaborate with the Predictive Safety Center for early stage assessment of regulatory and sustainability profile of compounds.

  • Generate, document and communicate sound data in the form of internal scientific reports and external publications (peer reviewed journals, patents, presentations and posters).

  • Establish and deliver long-term technical leadership around synthetic organic chemistry and SAR.

  • Develop strategies to engage external contact network and influence external organizations that impact and contribute to Corteva.

Qualifications

Requirements:

What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • PhD in required discipline.

  • Experience in synthetic methodologies, synthesis problem-solving and total synthesis.

  • Ability to work independently and through others to drive projects to completion.

  • Knowledge of broad separation technologies and characterization techniques.

  • Demonstrated expertise and coach for application of scientific principles, theory and experimental design to address challenges across numerous disciplines (e.g. design of experiment).

  • Examples of creative solutions and collaborative research outside of specific role.

  • A track record of technical publications, highly effective communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, teamwork, and demonstrated leadership.

Preferences:

  • Post-doctoral experience or 3-5 years of industrial experience with focus on synthesis and SAR development

  • Track record of project leadership and development of new capabilities and technologies.
