Middle Tennessee State University seeks a dynamic and innovate candidate for the position of Vice Provost for Academic Programs (#115280). Must be eligible for appointment at Associate or Professor level in an academic discipline offered by the university. Expedited tenure will be considered at time of appointment. The start date for this 12-month appointment is August 1, 2020.
The Vice Provost for Academic Programs (VPAP) provides leadership for academic program management; academic program planning, development, and approval; academic policy development and implementation; and curricular initiatives. Reporting to the University Provost, the VPAP is responsible for academic program and curricular innovation and excellence. MTSU's Academic Master Plan calls for educational programs of high quality and value at all levels in established and emerging fields. The VPAP facilitates development and management of academic programs; develops and provides oversight for implementation of academic and curricular policy and procedures; initiates and provides oversight for the creation of innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate academic programs; represents new programs to and secures their approval by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; coordinates the University's participation in the Academic Common Market, and provides leadership and oversight for the University's General Education program.
The candidate is expected to have a strong record of instructional and scholarship success, implementation of best practices in curriculum development, approval, and management, a commitment to curricular and instructional excellence; knowledge of trends in higher education, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; effectiveness in establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with diverse constituencies; the ability to resolve problems and issues, and provide effective supervisory skills.
Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution.
Required Related Experience
Three years full-time administrative experience in higher education at the chair level or above OR three years academic program administrative experience at a higher education agency.
Candidates with experience in academic policy development, implementation, and oversight at undergraduate and/or graduate levels will receive special consideration.
