The Biology Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor specializing in Quantitative Conservation Biology starting August 16, 2024.

The Biology Department serves > 500 undergraduate and >25 graduate students. In addition to teaching, faculty members conduct research addressing fundamental and applied questions in the biological sciences. The department offers graduate degrees through the Ph.D. and active training of graduate students is expected. The Fisheries and Wildlife program boasts an active student population whose graduates often go on to positions with state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and other conservation organizations. We seek a broadly trained Quantitative Conservation Biologist to strengthen the Fisheries and Wildlife Program and our focus on ecology of the Northern Great Plains. We especially encourage applications from candidates with field-based experience with at-risk or vulnerable species combined with strong data analytical skills (e.g., ecological modeling, spatial/movement analyses, species occurrence, etc.). The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding promise for establishing a sustainable research program that will attract external funds and be aligned with the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.

Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in Conservation Biology, Fisheries Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or related discipline and successful completion of a criminal history background check. Preferred qualifications: Research experience with quantitative aspects of conservation biology of at-risk or vulnerable species, Relevant postdoctoral experience, Experience obtaining extramural research funding, Experience mentoring students in research, Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses related to conservation biology, ecology, and management of at-risk species, Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses related to quantitative biology, Experience working with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., state and federal agencies, non-governmental, landowners, industry).
