Position Summary
The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking outstanding candidates with expertise in reaction theory for energetic central reactions, for an assistant professor position in theoretical nuclear science at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). FRIB theory faculty members typically have joint appointments in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (PA), where they teach and supervise graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to establish, sustain, and advance a sponsored research program in state-of-the-art and innovative theoretical approaches for energetic central reaction studies at FRIB and elsewhere, exploring bulk properties of nuclear matter.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- hold a doctoral degree in nuclear science or a related field,
- have at least two years of postdoctoral experience by August 2024,
- have at least two years of experience in reaction theory for energetic central reactions by August 2024,
- have demonstrated ability to conduct research in state-of-the-art and innovative theoretical approaches for energetic central reaction studies at FRIB and elsewhere. Research expertise should include modeling reaction dynamics and constraining bulk nuclear properties using measurement data, with an emphasis on isovector properties, such as the symmetry energy and connections to neutron star studies,
- exhibit promise to play a leadership role in the nuclear science community,
- exhibit promise to be an effective instructor using evidence-based techniques,
- exhibit promise to be an inclusive mentor to a diverse cohort of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels,

Required Degree
Doctorate -Nuclear Science or related field

Desired Qualifications
The successful candidate could have the following desired qualifications :
- ability to put transport calculations for reactions on fundamental microscopic footing,
- ability to apply machine learning or AI techniques to transport theory and/or data evaluation,
- experience in multi-messenger astronomy.
