The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Department of Surgery have an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Associate position in breast cancer research. The candidate will perform scientific research under the supervision of Dr. Karoline Briegel to study the molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer heterogeneity, metastatic progression, and treatment resistance, with a focus on novel WNT transcriptional/epigenetic mechanisms controlling epithelial lineage plasticity and cancer stem cell formation/maintenance. The individual will take a multidisciplinary approach, including protein-protein interaction studies, next generation sequencing, stem cell assays, and spatial multiplex analysis of the tumor microenvironment, in combination with patient-derived organoid and mouse in vivo models of breast cancer.

  • Conducts independent research and experiments on specific areas of the study as assigned.

  • Prepares research reports and manuscripts for publishing.

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

  • Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                            

  • Ph.D. required, in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or other life sciences.

  • No more than 0-1 years of prior postdoctoral experience.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Prior experience in protein-protein interaction studies, single cell analysis, imaging mass cytometry, FACS analysis, organoid cell culture, stem cell research, innate immunity, autophagy, and/or epigenetic/transcription factor analysis preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (both verbal and written) required.

  • Minimum of one first-author published manuscript in relevant field.

Department Specific Functions

Applicant must be independent, self-motivated, and goal oriented, and possess a demonstrated strong interest and skill set in the exploration of molecular mechanisms. The candidate will have access to state-of-the art proteomic, transcriptomic, genomic, and spatial multiplex analysis platforms (e.g., single cell RNA-Seq, Hyperion imaging cytometry) and work with breast cancer patient-derived models, human cell lines, and genetic mouse models. A background in breast cancer research, mammary gland biology, transcription factor biology, and or tumor immunology is desirable.

Duties include but are not limited to conceiving and executing experiments on several aspects of the research project, data analysis and presentation, lab organization, presenting seminars and other forms of research communication.
