I am looking for a researcher/lab manager for a drosophila neurobiology lab. Research will involve molecular and biochemical work, fly genetics and dissections, fly husbandry, tissue preparation and optical imaging. The researcher will work closely with the research assistant professor, but be able to optimize procedures and carryout experiments and analysis independently. Additional activities include maintaining inventory and equipment, ordering supplies and making solutions. The researcher will also assist in the training of new lab members, including undergraduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
50% Perform and analyze cell and biochemical experiments. Immunocytological and biochemical studies of gene products in drosophlia neurons. Keep detailed notes and protocols, troubleshoot independently, be able to
learn new procedures.
25% Fly molecular genetics, conduct mutational analyses using sophisticated molecular and classical genetic approaches.
25% Lab Management
Maintain inventory and equipment, order supplies and equipment, make solutions, maintain fly stocks.

All Required Qualifications Must be Documented On Application Materials

Required Qualifications:
BS/BA and 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six (6) years. Basic knowledge in genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology or a combination of the previous related educational studies and work experience. The ability to design and conduct experiments independently with integrity, rigor and documentation. Practical knowledge in molecular biology methods, DNA sequence analysis, and immunocytological and general biochemical technics.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years of experience as a full-time lab technician. The preferred candidate will have good writing skills to prepare paperwork (lab safety report and animal license) without supervision. The ability to accurately record experiments in lab notebooks. The preferred candidate will have experience in the use of the drosophila model system, especially in addressing the cellular mechanisms of neuronal transport and synaptic signaling.
