Montclair State University seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Dean of the Mimi and Edwin Feliciano School of Business. Over recent years, the School has achieved a prominent place in the state and the larger region, substantially increasing student enrollments, recruiting outstanding faculty, implementing major curricular renewal, establishing an Advisory Board of highly accomplished business leaders, and taking occupancy of a new $66 million state-of-the-art facility. The University seeks in the next Dean of the Feliciano School of Business an individual with the vision, experience, energy, and commitment to continue the progress of the School to national excellence.
Fully accredited by AACSB, the Feliciano School of Business has approximately 2,800 students, 105 full-time and 55 adjunct faculty, and offers an MBA, an MS in Accounting, an MS in Business Analytics, a BS in Business Administration with 11 concentrations, and a BA in Economics. The majority of the School’s instruction is offered in a face-to-face format, but many courses and programs are also offered in hybrid and online formats, as well in weekend and accelerated schedules. In addition, the School has developed a number of interdisciplinary programs in collaboration with the other colleges and schools of the University, including a BA in Language, Business and Culture. The School is comprised of six academic departments: Accounting & Finance; Economics; Management; Information Management and Business Analytics; Hospitality and Tourism; and Marketing, and its programs are enhanced by the thriving Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The School’s new 146,000 sq. ft. facility, opened in fall 2015, is an aesthetically striking addition to the academic community. It offers students state-of-the-art classrooms and many group study and community spaces, while providing our faculty with exceptional research facilities. Among the facility’s resources are the Ellyn A. McColgan Student Services Center, the James W. Merli Executive Education Center, a trading floor and financial resource center, a presentation hall, and a 3D printing MIX Lab that houses 48 3D printing devices. Among the School signature initiatives is Women’s Entrepreneurship Week (WEW), which had its origin at the Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and which has now expanded to more than 240 universities and colleges in 32 countries and 49 states.
Responsibilities and Experience
The Dean of the Feliciano School of Business is appointed by the President, reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School. The University seeks in the Dean an individual with the necessary qualities to be an outstanding and creative leader: who has the academic credibility and the personal skills to inspire the faculty and to ensure high standards in the School’s programs; who has the understanding and commitment to support success for a highly diverse student population; who has the business credibility and the knowledge to address the needs and gain the support of a changing, globally-oriented business community; and who has the energy and vision to drive the continued growth, achievements, and competitive prominence of the School in the state, the region, and the nation.
A PhD and the academic qualifications to hold a concurrent faculty appointment at the rank of professor in one of the disciplines of the School; higher education administrative experience and a demonstrable history of accomplishments applicable to the intellectual and administrative leadership of the School; an understanding of the mission of Montclair State University and how the School can contribute to the realization of that mission; substantial experience in developing and implementing meaningful partnerships with business and industry; experience as a successful fund-raiser; strong administrative skills applicable to the effective and efficient management of a large and complex unit of the University; experience in the public sector of higher education or readily transferable to the public sector; a very strong knowledge base in current and emerging practices in higher education generally and the business disciplines specifically; current knowledge in the uses of technology in higher education; an understanding of the policies and procedures of AACSB accreditation; and strong communication skills.
