Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Writing Center Director and the Writing Center Coordinator, the Senior SI Leader will be responsible for providing and overseeing individual and group tutoring services for students, specifically the development and improvement of English, reading, and writing skills.
The senior SI Leader will be responsible for attending assigned courses and guiding study groups for those courses. She/he will be responsible for mentoring SI leaders.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend assigned courses and guide study groups for those courses.
Mentor SI leaders (Regular and Experienced) through shadowing and modeling SI techniques.
Participate in and assist with Writing Center projects such as promotional events, trainings, and special support sessions.
Travel between the main campus and south campus Writing Center locations as needed.
Assist the director and coordinator with workshops and other presentations as needed.
Provide supplemental instruction resources to students.
Assist director and coordinator in operation of the Writing Center as needed.
Consult with students in writing basics during one-on-one sessions.
Create documents of various forms for Writing Center workshops and presentations.
Assist students in reaching proficiency in writing skills.
Provide SI Leaders and tutors with written samples of exceptional written material for them to use in sessions.
Maintain records of student achievement in mastery of writing skills.
Communicate between faculty, SI Leaders, and the Writing Center Coordinator/Director concerning supplemental instruction.
Perform other duties as needed by Writing Center Coordinator/Director.
A minimum of 24 college credit hours, including completion of composition and literature core classes.
Proficiency with various computer software programs including Microsoft Office suite.
30 College credit hours.
Two semesters experience in Supplemental Instruction or two semesters experience in tutoring writing.
Proficient writing skills as demonstrated through writing samples and minimum of 3.5 GPA in English courses.
Tutoring multilingual students
2+ years of experience in tutoring writing
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Employee should be skilled in the use of the written word in English as well as use of a personal computer and basic computer software as well as knowledge in the use of various office machines.
Good conversational skills in person and by telephone.
Employee shall have the ability to organize various activities assigned to them and the ability to work with other personnel in a courteous and professional manner. This includes the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Employee should have knowledge of tutorial objectives, principles, methods, and techniques, and the ability to plan and organize related activities.
Additionally, effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and influence skills are required to effectively collaborate with students, faculty, the Writing Center Coordinator, and the Writing Center Director.
Supervised by Writing Center Director, Writing Center Coordinator, and Senior SI Leader.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Work is performed in an office or classroom environment which is inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
