Lead Software Engineer

Job Description

LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER, Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL), to work with research staff and lead a team of software, data, and instrumentation engineers in support of naturalistic driving research on topics such as active safety, driver assistance, vehicle automation systems, distracted driving, vulnerable road users, and general driver behavior.  Will work with AgeLab researchers, junior software and data engineering staff, postdocs, and others to contribute to and supervise a small engineering and data team developing and maintaining software, instrumentation, and associated data systems in support of new and ongoing research.  Responsibilities include leading a team focused on curating primarily video and tabular sensor data; collaborating with researchers on setting project priorities; software development using Python and/or C/C++; providing technical support with the development of proposals; and other duties as requested.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, or similar technical field (data science, statistics); programming experience in a Linux environment using Python and/or C/C++; experience working with PostgreSQL and Mongo or similar databases for storing metadata; meticulous attention to detail; strong problem-solving, time-management, communication, and organization skills; team-orientation; and ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, and quickly learn new software programs/interfaces and troubleshoot minor technical problems.  PREFERRED: three years’ management or team lead experience in software, instrumentation, data, or related systems; familiarity with classic (edge detection, perspective transformation) and modern computer vision (e.g., object detection, scene segmentation, facial landmarks detection); knowledge of and interest in working with driving-related data; experience with cloud computing platforms; and a driver’s license and comfort driving in the Boston area.  Job #23112
