Summary

The Department of Radiology, Michigan Institute for Imaging Technology and Translation (MIITT) is seeking a faculty Assistant Research Scientist. The laboratory is active in developing and translating new MRI software technologies in many areas including quantitative MRI, interventional MRI, real-time MRI, and MRI accessibility. A key component of this work is to evaluate these new technologies in targeted application to improve patient care in the future.

RESEARCH STUDIES

  •         Establish sequences and reconstruction approaches for collection of quantitative tissue property maps.
  •          Develop application strategies of quantitative MR for various body systems and organs.
  •         Facilitate translation of sequences and reconstruction methods towards clinical implementation.
  •          Develop and improve methods for MR guided interventions.
  •          Development of data integration strategies to create post-imaging predictive models for disease and selection of treatment pathways.
  •         Package new developments for efficient distribution and deployment at collaboration institutions.
  •          Collect and analyze scientific data, in particular MRI data.
  •          Monitor study progress and perform quality control assessment of collected data.
  •         Draft conference abstracts and scientific manuscripts for publication.
  •          Assist and collaborate with PIs with conduct of research study protocols.
  • Monitor study progress and perform quality control assessment of collected data.

  •          SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Work towards independent research program, with a focus on development of new technologies for quantitative abdominal/prostate/rectal MRI, validation in healthy subjects, and testing for utility as part of conventional clinical protocols

  •            SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

  •         Assist with supervision of staff/students involved in research projects.
  •          Train staff members in use of MRI technologies.
  • Communicate with team members, supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates, providing input and progress updates of research projects on a consistent basis.

  •        ADMINISTRATION

  •         Assist PIs in the preparation and maintenance of IRB protocols.
  •      Assist PIs with grant submission and scientific paper preparation.

<5%

  •        EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

  •        Stay current with MRI and Radiology research.
  •         Assist in development and deployment of educational materials for residents and graduate students
  • Comply with University, HIPAA and IRB mandatory education requirements, regulations, and deadlines.

Responsibilities*

The emphasis of this research position is on establishing an independent research program that is in harmony with the theme of current research at the MIITT. The main responsibilities of the Assistant Research Scientist will be MRI sequence programming, MR image reconstruction and processing, quantitative data analysis, with participation in manuscript and grant writing. In addition, it is expected that the Assistant Research Scientist will collaborate with other investigators and handle administrative and supervisory duties (e.g. students rotating through the laboratory).

Required Qualifications*

This position requires PhD or MD/PhD degree with 5+ years of postdoctoral and faculty experience in MRI research with experience in quantitative imaging. Excellent analytical and communicative skills are critical.
