Postdoctoral Fellow - Molecular Hematology & Therapy

Job Description

Dr. Jo Ishizawa, Assistant Professor in the Section of Molecular Hematology & Therapy, Department of Leukemia at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, invites applications for a postdoctoral position. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with technical expertise, particularly in molecular biology, and a strong interest in developing novel cancer therapies to conduct a project for developing novel molecular-based therapy for hematologic malignancies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The applicant will conduct research on mitochondrial biology, cell death pathways, and mechanisms of drug resistance in leukemia stem cells through a combinatorial strategy of gene editing, gene/protein expression, proteome/metabolome, and in vitro and in vivo response assessment of investigational drugs in leukemia models.
The goal is to understand the functions of cell death regulators (particularly ferroptosis), mitochondrial proteins/metabolites, and leukemia microenvironmental regulators in drug resistance.

The researcher will present scientific results in project meetings, national and international conferences, and high-impact scientific publications.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate is a well-trained molecular and cell biologist Ph.D. with expertise in the following areas of discipline: molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing, OMICs analyses, multi-color flow cytometry, and/or mouse work. Molecular biology skills are highly desirable.

The applicant enjoys data- and hypothesis-driven research and promotes scientific collaboration within the research group, and will have excellent written and spoken (English) communication skills. The candidate should have one or more publications as a first author.
