Position Summary | The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be investigating the pathogenesis and treatment of rare lung diseases, including cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). Several projects are available, depending on the interest and qualifications of the applicant, including basic, clinical, and translational studies. One project focuses on the pathogenic mechanism of a newly described rare lung disease; another is focused on understanding genotype/phenotype relationships in PCD. The Postdoc will utilize a combination of cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, mouse models, and evaluation of clinical samples, providing an opportunity to develop multiple laboratory skills. The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop an independent research project. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | PhD in Biological Science (Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field) |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Ideal candidates will possess excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment. Must show evidence of ability to work independently. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Experience and interest in lung biology and disease. The laboratory uses a variety of different techniques, and experience with any/all of the following would be advantageous: 1) Mammalian cell culture 2) Molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and RT-PCR 3) Biochemical techniques, including protein isolation and Western blots 4) Animal handling, including management of transgenic mouse colonies, genotyping, and treatment 5) Immunohistochemistry 6) Microscopy, including light and fluorescence techniques 7) Protease and protease inhibitors. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements | Must be able to work with animals. |
