LIU Post's Department of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics is seeking a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Actuarial Science/Mathematics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Actuarial Science or related field. The candidate should be qualified to assist in all aspects of the development of the university's recently approved New York State-Certified Actuarial Science program. Candidates who can also teach applied mathematics courses such as advanced statistics and numerical analysis will be given preference.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Teaching primarily in courses in our new Actuarial Science program, with some teaching across the program expected.

  • Participation in recruitment, retention and admissions activities.

  • Participation in program committee work including program evaluation, accreditation tasks.

  • Actively engages in scholarship to advance knowledge and develops and implements a scholarship plan/faculty development plan.

  • Disseminates scholarly work consistent with University policies and accreditation expectations as well as securing funding to support such research.

  • Engages in a process of formative and summative course evaluation to enhance the student learning experience.

  • Serves on programmatic and university committees.

  • Advise students on academic, professional, and/or personal issues and provide student internship placement support.

  • Demonstrates professionalism and ethical behavior.

  • Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Program Director and Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Actuarial Science or related field and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research.
