Position Summary:

The Director for Student Life, Leadership, and Development (SLLD) is responsible for creating and supporting high-quality student life and development programs, services, and experiences for students within the Wenatchee Valley College District. The Director develops, implements, and facilitates opportunities for co-curricular and extracurricular engagement, learning, student leadership development, and campus pride. The director plays an essential role in creating a welcoming, inclusive campus and serves as the building manager for the Van Tassell Center on the Wenatchee campus, which is recognized as the student hub on campus. Within the Van Tassell Center are student services, clubs, student lounge, cafeteria, Knights Kupboard, campus store, diversity, and cultural center, international student services, housing and residence life, and an array of other programs and services. The personnel, programs, services, activities, and clubs within the Van Tassell Center, Student Recreation Center, and student services staff stationed at our Omak campus either directly or indirectly reports to the Director of SLLD.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and markets student initiatives and programming that will promote high-quality student life experiences and holistic well-being.
  • Implements and facilitates educational and developmental workshops that foster student leadership and professionalism.
  • Responsible for leadership training, student orientation, student government, student life, cultural and social activities and events, student publications, student center supervision, graduation, and the development of multicultural affairs programs.
  • Provides oversight and leadership for campus-wide signature student events and programs, and others as requested by the Vice President of Student Affairs.
  • Stays abreast of campus services, programs, resources, and other opportunities to aid in the retention of all students.
  • Directs students to resources, policies, and procedures to address personal or academic concerns.
  • Assists with addressing and responding to student complaints and serves as the backup student conduct officer for the Vice President of Student Affairs.
  • Works with faculty, staff, and administration to address and respond to student concerns and needs.
  • Coordinates or leads orientation programming for Student Affairs.
  • Oversees social media accounts for Student Affairs.
  • Directly or indirectly supervise the Student Life, Development, Van Tassell, and the Student Recreation Center, full-time and part-time employees, and student staff.
  • Provide leadership and administration for student conduct and a wide range of student activities that promote student growth, involvement in learning, and engagement in campus life and development.
  • Serve as the S&A Budget Control Officer, including monitoring and oversight for departmental budgets and allocations, student organizations and clubs’ budgets, and allocations funded by the Student Activities Fee.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal regulations and WVC policies and procedures as they relate to student conduct, student activities, fundraising organization, and sponsored events.
  • Coordinate and maintain the regular revisions for printed and online materials for student life, student conduct, and the student complaint process.
  • Coordinate with staff the development of annual goals and objectives for the office related to mission, values, and the WVC Strategic Plan.
  • Maintain and identify resources that reduce the impact of students basic needs insecurities and barriers to student achievement and success.
  • Collaboratively initiate and implement outreach and educational programs to educate students, faculty, and staff on student rights and responsibilities including supporting college processes.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing marketing campaign for student life and student conduct and its programs and services.
  • Design and administer data collection surveys and other assessment tools necessary to effectively lead Program Review for the office.
  • Facilitate student conduct investigations, maintain appropriate records, monitor sanctions and follow-up with complainants when necessary.
  • Deploy diversity, equity, inclusion, and place of belonging lens within the fabric and implementation of student programs, activities, and events.
  • Provide support to Student Government, the student governing organization in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluation of activities for the WVC student body.
  • Serve as chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team, providing team oversight, meeting management, case tracking, and response as needed.
  • Coordinate the complaint management response system including tracking trends, data collection, measuring effectiveness, and reporting.
  • Oversee contract negotiations for Student Life-sponsored performances, student organization service providers, and fundraising requests.
  • Oversee contracts and services within the Van Tassell or Student Recreation Center, including the Student Book Store, Knights Kupboard, etc.
  • Oversee the management of special campus events including Leadership Recognitions, Finals Relaxer, Welcoming Activities, and in collaboration with Athletics on game days.
  • Oversee the management of the student identification card system for students.
  • With the support of the WVC Communications, Marketing, and Media Relations team, lead the development and production of departmental webpages.
  • Oversee development, coordination, and delivery of training to the student body regarding prevention and awareness of sexual violence and drugs and alcohol.
  • Promote student involvement in out-of-class student learning opportunities through partnerships with faculty and academic programs that generate meaningful learning and student development.
  • Promote student wellness and recreation through initiatives that include intramural and student recreation activities, and events that promote healthy physical, emotional, and social wellness.
  • Coordinate, lead, and manage the annual Commencements, with primary oversight of student participation and lineup. Provide support to Grad Fest by coordinating Student Life related tables for the event (such as check-in, ticket distribution, Phi Theta Kappa medallion sales, and commencement-related details/information).
  • Serve on college committees, teams, and community projects as appropriate and requested.
  • Persons in this role are identified as Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSA's will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes as required by the Clery Act.
  • Supervise and manage administrative functions within student involvement including campus activities, registered student organizations, and student engagement as they apply to the organization regarding business affairs, office management, program maintenance, student concerns, and meetings.
  • Provide consultation for student organizations and advisors; and create, develop, and oversee expectations, guidelines, policies, and procedures for registered student organizations.
  • Develop strategic plans to clearly support the student needs, the divisional mission, and goals.
  • Assess, evaluate, and support the social, cultural, leadership, and student development activities provided through student involvement and Campus Activities
  • Develop and maintain support for traditional and nontraditional programs through collaborations, services, and advocacy.
  • Focus on retention of students through student involvement in decision-making, prioritizing best practices, and institutional research to support student persistence to graduation.
  • Design, assess, and evaluate student learning outcomes and overall program evaluation reports focusing on campus activities and student involvement.
  • Coordinate and facilitate large-scale campus and district pride and engagement events including student appreciation, recreational activities, weekly events like Knights Wednesdays, Friday Movie Madness, cultural and history-month programming, and support campus-wide planning committees (homecoming, welcome week, student appreciation, etc.).
  • Chair a campus-wide committee focusing on student involvement and programming initiatives to increase cross-departmental collaboration and elevate service to WVC students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience in student programs within a comprehensive community college or four-year institution.
  • Two years experience in an administrative or leadership position, preferably in higher education, including supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of project management.
  • Clear evidence of planning capabilities with the ability to provide leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Technical/computer skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canvas, PeopleSoft, and other college systems; ability to be cross-trained to provide basic technical support.
  • Student services: Knowledge of college processes such as admissions, enrollment, and financial aid; ability to be cross-trained to provide student services support.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.

Additional Information
Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time professional exempt position contracted on an annual basis. The salary for this position is $90,000 annually. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the fiscal year. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the department.

Work Schedule & Environment:

  • Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, but occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
