Bradley University, a top-10 Midwest regional university founded in 1897 by Lydia Moss Bradley, announces a nationwide search for the dean of the Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology. U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 “America’s Best Colleges,” ranked Bradley as the top school in Illinois for master’s granting institutions and at #4 regionally. The report ranked Bradley’s Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology among the top 30 for undergraduate engineering schools.

Bradley University is a top-ranked, private university in Peoria, Illinois, offering 5,400 undergraduate and graduate students the opportunities, choices and resources of a larger university and the personal attention and exceptional learning experience of a smaller university. Bradley offers a comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate academic programs in business, communications, education, engineering, fine arts, health sciences, liberal arts and sciences, and technology. The University is located on an 85-acre campus in the largest metropolitan area in central Illinois.

The Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology currently enrolls approximately 800 students and employs approximately 50 full-time faculty. There are four departments, including civil engineering and construction, electrical and computer engineering, industrial and manufacturing engineering and technology, and mechanical engineering. Additionally, the college offers several innovative ABET or ACCE accredited programs within departments.

With a focus on undergraduate engineering education, our goal is to educate and graduate fully integrated individuals who possess the technical and social competence and confidence to succeed in professional practice and advanced education, to be lifelong learners, and to exercise responsible citizenship. Bradley’s campus has an atmosphere of open inquiry and exploration. This enhances the sound technical foundation that the university’s engineering and technology students receive.

Reporting to the provost and vice president of academic affairs, the dean is the chief administrative officer of the college and is responsible for the effective execution of its academic mission. A Bradley education emphasizes convergence, an innovative and interdisciplinary kind of study that gives students additional leadership opportunities. The new dean will nurture and facilitate this exciting educational model and will be an important part of the university’s administrative team.

To facilitate this educational initiative, this fall the university opened its new $100M+ Business and Engineering Convergence Center, which houses the Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology and the Foster College of Business. As a home for the next generation of industry leaders, engineering and business students collaborate on new technology and forward-thinking business practices that will create new jobs and sustain their careers.

The incoming dean will need to embrace the convergence educational model and be able to work closely with the dean of the Foster College of Business. The best candidates will be inspirational leaders who can lead transformative change, have strategic vision, the highest integrity, exemplary communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a consensus-building leadership style. This is an exceptional opportunity for a distinguished leader.

  • Develop and advance convergence based education and projects in the college.

  • Commitment to engaging faculty, staff, students, and industry in Bradley’s convergence activities.

  • Actively embrace diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff.

  • Establish and maintain academic excellence; ensure student quality, effective recruitment, and success leading to exceptional career outcomes.

  • Oversee hiring and attendant human resource functions.
