The Colorado Forest Restoration Institution (CFRI) is a Congressionally-authorized program housed in the Department of Forest & Rangeland Stewardship at Colorado State University with the mission to develop, compile, synthesize, and apply locally-relevant science-based knowledge to achieve forest restoration and wildfire mitigation goals. CFRI is one of three programs comprising the Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes authorized by the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004, in addition to the Ecological Restoration Institute at Northern Arizona University and the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute at New Mexico Highlands University. Position Summary	The Colorado Forest Restoration Institute (CFRI) at Colorado State University is seeking applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to contribute intellectual and implementation leadership for a multi-year transdisciplinary applied research project aimed at advancing our understanding of treatment effectiveness in the face of changing fire regimes. . CFRI, as part of the Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes (SWERI), has received funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act enacted in 2021 to carry out a five-year program of work to strengthen collaborative governance processes among governmental, non-governmental and community-based entities engaged in forest wildfire risk management in the U.S. The Act specifically directs the SWERI to leverage their established role and expertise as boundary-spanners to facilitate the coordination and use of currently available geospatial data platforms and products in multi-stakeholder collaborative wildfire risk management governance processes in ways that complement and supplement the diversity of locally-relevant knowledge held by, and available to, managers, stakeholders and policy-makers across spatial scales. The Post Doc will focus on the Act’s provision to use the newly curated treatment database to answer questions about treatment effectiveness and provide nuance to when and why treatments are effective versus ineffective using multiple metrics. This position will work closely across the SWERIs in regards to the research coordination of the geodatabase to ensure data quality and specificity is additive to potential uses, end users and analyses. This position does qualify for part-time in-person, part-time remote work.
Required Job Qualifications	Completed Ph.D. in forestry, ecology, natural resources, wildland fire science, geography, or a related field of study. Evidence of experience in big dataset, spatial statistics, and coding (R, python, etc). Evidence of peer reviewed publications. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications	Programming experience, such as Python and/or R, for spatial data processing and analysis. Experience automating spatial analysis workflows with remote sensing, multiple data types (spreadsheets, databases, raster and vector spatial data), big data, or spatial analysis across multiple software platforms. Evidence of expertise in fire behavior and/or fire management in the western US Evidence of expertise or experience using geospatial data analytics and products Evidence of experience in collaborating, motivating and encouraging staff to perform at a high level Evidence of professional oral communication to diverse audiences Evidence of personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes. Experience with fire behavior modeling programs (e.g., FlamMap, FSIM, etc). Evidence of supervision of others in collaborative project settings Knowledge of western US forest and fire ecology, wildfire management, and/or wildfire experience.

Develop methods for, conduct and report on periodic assessments of the effectiveness and work with others to understand the impacts of planning and decision-making systems and processes for prioritizing, planning, and tracking accomplishments and outcomes for forest wildfire management actions.
