Job Summary:

The position involves the development of an independent and NIH funded program of research in the musculoskeletal science field.  The candidate will establish and grow their own independent laboratory with the Orthopedic Research Center and the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, conducting, leading and presenting research progress in accordance with the Department of Orthopedics’ research mission.  This includes presentation of findings in local, national, and international venues and publication of findings in the peer-reviewed literature.  This also includes development of competitive grant proposals for the pursuit of extramural support from NIH, other federal, foundation, and industry sources.
  • Participating in the education of undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, orthopedic residents and fellows.  This includes providing expertise, supervision, feedback, mentoring and leadership, as well as participation in and leading of educational seminars and community activities.
  • Fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability in the Department of Orthopedics and among members of the Orthopedic Research Center.  This includes a focus on nurturing the growth of collaborations and scientific relationships between Faculty in all divisions of the Department of Orthopedics.

  Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • MD and/or PhD Degree
  • At least 3 years of postdoctoral experience as a researcher in the musculoskeletal science field 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than 15 peer-reviewed publications as first or co-author
  • Active membership in the Orthopedic Research Society or American Society of Bone and Mineral Research
  • Previous success winning fellowship grants to support predoctoral or postdoctoral research activity
  • A scored NIH grant (K, R, P or U series) 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in an academic laboratory setting performing bench research, data recording and analysis, and creation of figures
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience participating in the assembly of grant applications
  • Experience mentoring junior lab staff

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $100,000 - $110,000

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
