Digitization Associate

Job Description

DIGITIZATION ASSOCIATE, MIT Libraries, to contribute to imaging activities for digitization in collaboration with staff from the Imaging Unit.  Will follow best practices for imaging based on the condition of the material and the desired output; use a high level of care, accuracy, and security to perform digitization of historical/rare materials; and utilize imaging software (e.g., Capture One Pro, QuickScan, and SilverFast) and various types of equipment (e.g., automatic document feeder, slide/flatbed, or digital camera systems) to digitize materials and applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Goobi, or PrimeOCR to perform advanced image processing.  May perform post-processing tasks such as cropping and embedding metadata and other tasks to prepare files for digital preservation; and handle quality control of in-house and outsourced projects, verifying that all requirements are met.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; two years’ direct/related experience (those with post-high school education that provided understanding of digital imaging and scanning and working with cultural heritage materials may be considered); technical experience with digital imaging equipment (especially digital cameras) and related Windows-based and Mac OS software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, Microsoft Excel); attention to detail and accuracy; ability to perform quantitative work; and strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills. Work may require moving objects weighing 10 to 20 lbs.  PREFERRED:  understanding of digital imaging technologies/standards, including scanner technology, digitization workflows, imaging system troubleshooting, digital photography or image analysis, and processing software; experience in a higher education or cultural heritage setting; and experience with Capture One Pro or Adobe Lightroom.  Job #23105-5

Hourly rate (pay grade 5):  $23.77 - 33.38 - 42.98, actual rate based upon qualifications and experience

Schedule to be determined between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.
