Job Description

The Associate Dean of Graduate Nursing Education, under direction of the School of Nursing (SON) Dean and VP, is responsible for facilitating the effective delivery of nursing education through working with Academic Chairs, Assistant Dean of Curriculum, Assistant Dean of Students, faculty, and staff. Directly supervises and provides guidance to Academic Chairs to assure standards for nursing program and faculty performance are met. Works with appropriate depts to assure that Academic Chairs and faculty are providing effective education and achieving the program's goals and clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and ongoing management to Academic Chairs. Participates in the hiring, development, evaluation and retention of Chairs and faculty. Success is measured by program, faculty and student outcomes. Assists with resolving issues related to nursing standards.

  • Oversees Chair and faculty orientation. Provides direction for Chairs' professional development activities.

  • Responsible to assure the effective coordination between the nursing education programs, the SON Assistant Dean of Students, other SON ADs, and PG departments that provide academic and student support.

  • Responsible for the graduate nursing program's participation in quality monitoring processes, including measures to assure nursing program compliance with nursing regulatory, accreditation and professional standards.

  • Participates in development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies and practices related to graduate nursing education programs.

  • Participates in nursing faculty development and recognition events, facilitates faculty participation in PG and SON committees, and encourages faculty scholarship endeavors.

  • Assures that Chairs and faculty are aware of and have access to resources that support their professional performance and success, including opportunities to advance academic education and participate in activities related to the profession of nursing.

  • Supports and participates in activities to support student enrollment and retention.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Accreditation to ensure all graduate programs meet accreditation requirements.

  • As assigned and/or in partnership with the Dean, will represent nursing programs at events with Boards of Nursing, professional organizations, community and clinical partners, and PG projects.

  • Provides guidance for communication activities including, but not limited to nursing meetings, publications, and other program reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing and Doctoral Degree (PhD/DNP/EdD)

  • Experience with graduate nursing programs (MSN & DNP) including nurse practitioner.

  • 5-7 years' of related experience

  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements for nursing programs.

  • Management/Leadership experience in higher education with faculty oversight.

  • Proven record of relevant professional accomplishments

  • Project Management skills

  • RN, unencumbered and active license

  • Proficient in working in an online environment

  • PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google documents, and Project Management to perform essential job functions

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Able to work independently with light supervision

  • Organized and effective in managing multiple levels of activity in a dynamic environment

  • Demonstrates mature judgment in complex situations

  • Possesses problem solving and decision-making abilities

  • Team player; able to work with multiple stakeholders, has a solution-oriented approach

  • Able to set and accomplish priorities in an effective manner

  • Engages cooperation across teams

  • Must be willing to travel approximately 10% of the time for work purposes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in supervising virtual teams

  • Engagement with nursing professional organizations

  • Track record of scholarly activities
