Postdoctoral Researcher-Brady Lab
We are seeking a highly motivated and independent individual who is interested in pursuing an academic career in root development, plant-microbiome interactions, parasitic plant interactions or high-throughput plant phenotyping. Dr. Brady's research focuses on the diverse ways in which the environment is able to interact with cell type developmental programs for favorable outcomes. The postdoctoral scholar who secures this position will identify microbes that can induce changes in cell wall differentiation in sorghum, rice and millet roots and test their consequence on interaction with the parasitic plant, Striga hermonthica.
The successful applicant will be responsible for developing a platform to perform histochemistry and imaging at cellular resolution, and to treat plants with individual microbes or synthetic communities at moderate to high throughput. Subsequent research will prioritize microbes for their ability to induce the trait of interest in sorghum, rice and millet. Bioinformatic analyses will identify closely related species which will be tested for improvement in the trait of interest. The applicant will work closely with a team in the Brady lab, as well as with collaborators in the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Senegal and the United Kingdom. They will have the opportunity to attend workshops or courses aimed at advancing their existing analytical skills as required by ongoing and future research projects, mentor students, and to participate in the preparation and writing of manuscripts and grants.
UC Davis is a vibrant academic environment and offers multiple opportunities for attending seminars and interacting with other groups that are interested in the molecular epidemiology of cancer and other diseases.
Applications from individuals with a background in studying organisms other than plants are equally encouraged. Appreciation and respect for human diversity is a must.
