Faculty Position Information

I. Basic Responsibilities

  • Articulate the Brown Library's vision/direction, collaboratively creating a plan to realize this vision, and managing the organization towards continual improvement.

  • Research and demonstrate university needs for academic information resources, services, and technologies, developing new funding and/or redeploying existing investment to these ends.

  • Manage the library budget to maximize positive impact for faculty/students within established fiscal limits, assigning and monitoring management of departmental budget responsibilities among the library leadership team.

  • Lead library fundraising and facilities renovation, advancing library finances and facilities through collaborative appeal for additional funding from both within and outside ACU.

  • Coach and mentor library personnel, especially members of the library leadership team, advocating for the central and vital role of the library's faculty and staff within the university.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • A. Articulate the Brown Library's vision/direction, collaboratively creating a plan to realize this vision, and managing the organization towards continual improvement.

    • Lead annual cycles of institutional planning, coordination, assessment, and redirection.

    • Participate in departmental and individual conversations across the university and the library/technology fields to identify needs, priorities, and best practices for library and technology services at ACU.

    • Align library goals with the university mission and strategic plan, especially Provost and college initiatives.

  • B. Research and demonstrate university needs for academic information resources, services, and technologies, developing new funding and/or redeploying existing investment to these ends.

    • Lead and appoint teams charged with resourcing new academic programs, new instructional spaces across campus, and new technology skills and online platforms.

    • Lead campus conversations and strategic investment in emerging technologies related to teaching, learning, and research.

    • Foster university, foundation, and corporate partnerships advancing innovation in information and communication technology at ACU, especially those advancing creative inquiry.

  • C. Manage the library budget to maximize positive impact for faculty/students within established fiscal limits, assigning and monitoring management of departmental budget responsibilities among the library leadership team.

    • Research and advocate for the development of library budgets to meet the needs and aspirations of the university

    • Monitor and manage the library budgets--including restricted funds and endowment funds--for efficacy and accuracy in expenditure.

    • Oversee finances of special projects including funding for construction, grant activities, and fundraising events.

  • D. Lead library fundraising efforts and facilities renovation, advancing library finances and facilities through collaborative appeal for additional funding from both within and outside ACU.

    • Create and maintain relationships with donors to the library, including foundations and individual donors, as well as the Library Advisory Board.

    • Maintain annual schedule of marketing and fundraising activities, including the Library Spring Banquet.

    • Initiate and manage library renovation projects.

  • E. Coach and mentor library personnel, especially members of the library leadership team, advocating for the central and vital role of the library's faculty and staff within the university.

    • Recruit and hire highly quality personnel.

    • Maintain and enhance a high-functioning workplace culture for library faculty and staff.

    • Collaboratively create a supportive and creative environment for professional development.

    • Promote the library and its personnel across the campus and broader community.

Professional Development Requirements:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the theory and practice undergirding the 21 st century university library, including educational technology and academic publishing.

  2. Effectiveness in public speaking and interpersonal communication.

  3. Collaborative leadership across a diverse and complex academic organization.

Qualifications:

  1. ALA accredited MLIS required

  2. 5 years of progressive experience in academic library leadership.

  3. Record of engagement in professional associations and achievement in scholarly productivity.

  4. Doctorate preferred but not required.
