Job Summary

THIS POSITION BEGINS AUGUST 2020.

Glendale Community College serves a highly diverse student population where the hired applicant will teach the range of Computer Science courses including introductory programming, Data Structures, programming languages, and Assembly Language. The instructor will be expected to use innovative teaching methods and incorporate the appropriate technology in the instruction of Computer Science. Participation in departmental, college, and district committees & activities and regular pursuit of professional growth opportunities are expected of the hired applicant.

Supervises and instructs a developmental diverse student population in a classroom or lab using various methods of instruction. Assess students' knowledge of subject matter being taught. Prepares and grades all forms of assessment. Prepares instruction. Tutors students, holds 5 academic support hours, develops written syllabi and course outlines, and participates in department, division, college and/or district activities and committees. Remains current with new trends in Computer Science. Shares expertise with other instructors.

Essential Functions

Tutors students, holds 5 academic support hours, develops written syllabi and course outlines, and participates in department, division, college and/or district activities and committees. Remains current with new trends in Computer Science. Shares expertise with other instructors.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in the teaching field, OR

A master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field, AND

EDU 250- Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of the date of hire.

Desired Qualifications

A. Evidence of the knowledge of Data Structures and both higher and lower level computer languages

B. Evidence of teaching experience sufficient to teach the range of introductory and intermediate level Computer Science courses

C. Evidence of using a variety of teaching methods, including technology and its uses in the teaching of Computer Science

D. Evidence of significant professional growth in Computer Science

E. Evidence of a solid background in mathematics needed for teaching Computer Science

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense

  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations

  • May require numerous evenings or weekends

  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
