Since 1980, Parkland College's College for Kids (CFK) has provided area youth with invigorating and safe experiences designed to ignite a lifelong desire for learning. CFK provides the opportunity for students 8-13 years old to explore areas of study and interest in a non-graded, fun-filled environment through quality, hands-on experiences.  All CFK classes are held on Parkland College's main campus in a supervised and well-staffed environment.  More information is available at www.parkland.edu/cfk or by calling Community Education at (217) 351-2545. 
Program Goals:
  • Provide hands-on explorations in specialized fields such as science, math, language arts, computer science, technology, humanities, and fine arts.
  • Provide challenging and intellectually stimulating experiences so students can pursue their special interests.
  • Expose students to a learning environment that will motivate them to achieve their highest potential. 
*Hiring is contingent upon the enrollment needs of College for Kids and the class schedule*
This position is a part-time hourly, seasonal appointment with a salary of $11.34/hr. 

Essential Job Functions

  • CFK Assistants work 12:15 PM-5:15 PM, Monday through Thursday each session.
  • Prompt arrival and ready to work at 12:15 PM.
  • Attend mandatory CFK Instructor/Staff Orientation on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 5:45 PM.
  • Engage students in classroom activities and interact with students in a positive and encouraging manner. 
  • Responsible for safely escorting students to and from meeting point and classrooms.
  • Assist in classroom management.
  • Assist instructor in classroom preparations, including, but not limited to: locating and organizing supplies, setting up classroom for projects, collecting projects, visiting supply room, communicating to instructor and/or Youth Programs Manager any supply needs.
  • Safely manage and organize student dismissal and pick-up after classes.
  • Ensure students are picked up by an approved person.
  • Communicate any emergencies by phone in a professional, timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma by orientation (June 6, 2019).
  • Must commit to attending the mandatory Instructor/Staff Orientation on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 5:45 PM.
  • Must be available to work for the entirety of the sessions.  
    • Session I:  June 17-27, 2019
    • Session II: July 8-18, 2019
  • Must pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Highly motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Patience when working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A professional attitude and the ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
