Position Summary

The Athletic Director will be responsible for the oversight of all athletic teams at the College and activities related to athletics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for team management duties including recruitment, advertising, training, and any other support activities that are necessary for student athletes to enjoy successful careers while attending the College.
  • Serve as primary advisor for all student athletes to assist with registration of classes
  • Support student academic success and engagement via one-on-one coaching, meetings, and academic skills/engagement programs with “at-risk” students.
  • Work with coaches to plan and monitor “study hall” activities during each student athlete’s first semester in college
  • Serve as an observer in the learning management system to assist in keeping all student athletes on track for course completion
  • Communicate with faculty regarding “at-risk” students’ academic progress.
  • Work with student athletes to develop two-year degree plans that will guide students to completion of a degree.
  • Plans and oversees a wide range of athletic opportunities for students in compliance with Title IX, NWSCC guidelines, ACCS policies, NJCAA rules, and other required regulations.
  • Prepares and administers intercollegiate athletic budget and provides fiscal overview for athletic program.
  • Work with coaches to coordinate the purchase of equipment, uniforms, etc. for use in the athletic program
  • Develops, in cooperation with athletic staff, games and schedules.
  • Ensures that all events held in conjunction with the Athletic Department are in compliance with NJCAA.
  • Confirms and issues appropriate NJCAA letters of intent (LOI) for scholarship athletes and certifies eligibility of athletes to compete.
  • Insures that all athletes have physicals, a doctor’s release, and insurance.
  • Coordinate drug testing of athletes.
  • Develop and oversee plans related to the well-being of student athletes including CPR Training, AED Training, coordination of Athletic Trainers, etc.
  • Establishes and evaluates goals for the athletic program through the College’s institutional effectiveness program.
  • Develops and oversees an annual orientation program for athletes.
  • Develops appropriate tracking of and maintains appropriate information regarding the scholastic performance of all students.
  • Supervises all recruitment activities within intercollegiate athletic program to ensure compliance with conference and national rules.
  • Maintains effective relations with area high school coaches to ensure an efficient and effective recruiting network.
  • Develops and disseminates team schedules for all College sporting events.
  • Maintains an inventory record of all athletic equipment.
  • Oversees the effective maintenance of all athletic facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate and official team records, individual records, and program history.
  • Develops and maintains an effective program in order to identify and attract scholarship recipients.
  • Ensures ongoing eligibility of athletes.
  • Supervises coaches, assistant coaches and other part-time employees.
  • Coordinates all team travel adhering to prudent budgetary practice.
  • Work with the maintenance department to coordinate the use of College vehicles for transportation to games, including the identification of qualified bus drivers.
  • Coordinates concessions and other sales for home games.
  • Serve as the College’s primary contact for use of any athletic facility by other agencies or community members.
  • Maintains the Athletic Department’s website and social media pages.
  • Serve as the Sports Information Media Contact and point person for all student-athlete stories.
  • Serve as photographer at College sporting events.
  • Research licensing of sports apparel and serve as the point person for getting NWSCC apparel in local outlets.
  • Serve, with the Director of Public Relations and Marketing, as a website administrator.
  • Serve as a College Media Contact when the Director of Public Relations and Marketing is out of town or unavailable.
  • Coordinate with coaches to ensure that they are involved in local community service opportunities throughout the year.
  • Work with the foundation office to plan, coordinate, and implement fundraising activities for the athletic program.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, required.
  • Three years of supervisory experience, required.
  • One year experience as Athletic Director, required.
  • Experience working in Public Relations, Marketing or related area, preferred.
  • Coaching experience at secondary and/or postsecondary level, preferred.

SALARY: Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System’s Salary Schedule C3-4 ($64,416 - $98,692).
