Position Summary
The postdoctoral research associate will focus on protein biology applied to tissue engineering and matrix-modulation of oral diseases such as periodontitis and bone defects. We are primarily interested in the function of ECM proteins as modulators of homeostasis and regeneration in mineralized tissues. Additionally, we are conducting studies to understand the effect of natural compounds (phytochemicals, etc.) in the cell and matrix microenvironment. The funding for this position is related to a project for development of a therapeutic for periodontitis. Besides involvement in several projects, the applicant will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate (college and DDS levels), graduate (Masters students), PhD students and junior postdocs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. in an area of biomedical sciences such as molecular biology or bioengineering (others will also be considered). Experience with all or most of the following is very important: cell culture, molecular biology or bioengineering protocols, western blot, qPCR/nanoString/ RNAseq, ELISA/Luminex, microcomputed tomography and analysis, histology and immunohistochemistry, bioreactor or ex-vivo culture, advanced imaging and statistics. Comfort working with mice and rats would be important.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with one or all of the following in vivo models: osteoporosis and diabetes, aging as well as craniofacial and long bones regeneration, periodontal disease, connective tissue wound healing, and various cell and molecular biology assays. Excellent communication and organization skills and ability to develop innovative experimental methods are needed.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in fluorescence microscopy and confocal is highly desired.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
