Position Overview
Hiring a post-doctoral scholar will benefit the university by increasing research output and benefit the scholar by developing their skills and providing experiences in new fields of study. This position will work with Dr. Patel and other researchers and collaborators in the Patel lab. The Patel lab works on interdisciplinary and collaborative projects under a broad theme of developing and applying molecular modeling methods to understand protein sequence-structure-function relationships in biomolecular systems and computer-aided drug design. The activities will be directly in support of the following project: Understanding sequence-structure-function relationships in visual photopigments (opsin protein). This project will lead to a better genome-to-phenome understanding of the molecular function of visual photopigments, which will pave the way for novel strategies to engineer photopigments suitable for optogenetics, or to develop targeted therapeutic strategies. Some of the efforts might also be directed towards another project involving structure-based drug design of novel antifungal chemical compounds.
The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for a maximum of another year upon satisfactory performance. Position is available immediately and will remain open until excellent fit is found. This position will help you prepare for competitive positions in academia or industry with a focus on developing molecular simulation pipelines, publications, and real-world impact on challenges affecting human health.
