Responsibilities*

Operate equipment such as ultrasonic tunnel washers and autoclaves; assemble and wrap items for sterilization; receive, sort, and store dental instruments and equipment; clean instruments; maintain autoclave records; transport equipment and supplies to various service units; clean and maintain assigned work areas; interact and communicate effectively with supervisor, various publics, co-workers; participate in annual infection control and sterilization update examination.

Required Qualifications*

Experience in an operating room or in a sterilization unit; good interpersonal skills; previous experience with operating autoclaves or other types of cleaning/sterilizing equipment; demonstrated ability to follow supervisor directives and/or posted or verbal work assignments; demonstrated capacity to work in close proximity and communicate efficiently with co-workers in a production oriented environment; demonstrated capacity to be a team player and to interact positively with various publics including both supervisors and co-workers; position requires safely moving instrument baskets weighing up to 20 lbs; attention to detail is a must; must be punctual and have an excellent attendance record.

Desired Qualifications*

CRCST Certification. 

Work Schedule

The normal working hours schedule for this position is 2 pm -10:30 pm; during the pandemic, the current working hours are 11:30 am - 8:00 pm. Once operations have returned to normal operations, the position will return to the 2 pm -10:30 pm shift. 

Work Locations

This position is located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University Ave.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
