West Hills Community College Lemoore

Adjunct Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach
PT/Temporary Position for 19-20 season

$5,000/per year
Adjunct Faculty Rate for Women's Basketball Athletic Class (175 hours @$68-$70/hr)
Opportunity to teach off-season basketball class

*Stipends and assignments are pro-rated depending on when successful candidate starts.

Position Duties

BASIC FUNCTION: 

West Hills College Lemoore is looking for a dynamic individual to be responsible for the Women's Basketball program.  The coach is expected to communicate with the student/athletes, recruit student/athletes for the program, supervise student study sessions, develop and manage the Women's Basketball budget, and follow the guidelines of the Athletic Department and the California Community College Athletic Association.  The coach must also be able to communicate with the coaching staff, faculty, and administration.

Qualification

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Advise and instruct students on theory and practice of Women's Basketball.
Coach and direct the WHC Lemoore Women's Basketball team.
Develop and implement a strong student-athlete recruitment program to ensure efficient number of quality student-athletes to maintain a viable roster and competitive program.
Assist in building strong relations between the community and athletic department, particularly with high schools of the District.
Develop and manage the WHC Lemoore Women's Basketball budget.
Provide direction for all facets of successful program.
Select and supervise assistant coaches and general supervision of support staff.
Assist in building strong relations between the community and the athletic department.
Assist student athletes to complete required academics and transfer to four-year institutions.
Remain current in theory, coaching, and the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through participation in professional development.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the associated athletic class(es).
Participate in fundraising activities to augment Women's Basketball budget.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Modern instructional practices, procedures and equipment
Record-keeping techniques
Filing systems and procedures
Coaching techniques and theory
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
Operation of a personal computer and word processing programs
The diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, and religious background of community college students

Ability to:
Implement contemporary teaching methods and technologies
Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations, or other activities appropriate to the discipline or assignments
Communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community organizations

Lifting moderately heavy objects

Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and interview students
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or any associate degree and six years of experience.
