About the Department

The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the university’s teaching, research/administrative space, and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost-effective services to the university, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, and minimize university liabilities and disruptions caused by the university’s maintenance, repair and building, and equipment modifications.

Campus Planning and Strategic Investment (CP) optimize the design and use of campus land, buildings, and infrastructure to support the university’s mission. Through collaborative planning and data-driven analysis, CP ensures financial and environmental stewardship while planning for the university’s current and future needs. The unit is responsible for developing and implementing the university’s physical master plan, site design, space planning, infrastructure planning, and other planning efforts that guide the development of the physical campus. The unit leads the capital planning effort including the biennial Capital Budget Request for appropriated projects guided by the university’s strategic plan, projected enrollment growth, and academic space growth projections. CP coordinates the implementation of the capital improvement plan in the context of the University’s approved physical master plan and is responsible for the campus design, architectural design quality, space planning, analysis, and management.

CP is responsible for Facilities Information System Management. This includes the development and maintenance of databases to track physical campus data used for decision-making, reporting, and benchmarking. It includes space, building condition, building floor plans and maps, architectural and engineering as-built records, survey accurate mapping, utility data, geographic information system development and maintenance, and coordination of access to this information.

Essential Job Duties

This position manages the CAD drafting operations and oversees the record maintenance for Campus Planning and Strategic Investment. The position is the subject matter expert on AutoDesk products, including AutoCAD, which is the program used to maintain interior and exterior maps.

The position creates and maintains operational floor plans for over 17,000,000 square feet of space using a variety of facility management and spatial data information systems, applications, and best practices. They maintain accuracy by conducting quality control processes and verifying that drawings conform to current standards.

The position assists other AutoCAD users and troubleshoots AutoCAD issues within the Facilities Division. They provide guidance, training, and mentoring to staff in the preparation and production of drawings and documents using CAD technology. The position sets up scripts and templates for campus and vendor use.

The position creates and documents all Autodesk software requirements and takes the lead in testing Autodesk software modifications and its relationship with other programs currently in use. They research and interact with vendors and peers in order to keep current with technology and recommend new products and new releases of existing products.

The position directly supervises the Plan Room Librarian and a CAD Technician. They work with their employees to develop standards related to receiving, maintaining, and updating records. They will determine priorities, allocate and review work, allocate resources, and manage employee schedules. They will provide division-wide strategic insight and direction for the CAD program. They will advise management on program implementation, equipment needs, and evolving technological and support strategies.

The position will work with project managers and be involved in the project closeout process to ensure that project completion sign-off includes all required drawings and documentation.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Advanced skill with Autodesk products, especially AutoCAD.
  • Ability to understand architectural/construction plans and drawings.
  • Some experience/knowledge of relational databases.
  • Intermediate knowledge of architectural/engineering terminology and ability to read technical drawings.
  • Able to problem solve computer issues and accurately address user concerns.
  • Able to work collaboratively to manage issues and achieve goals, plan/allocate resources, and effectively supervise staff.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to apply appropriate communication techniques to varying audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Revit and Civil3D
  • Experience with Computer Aided Facility Management Programs
