Development Manager, Arts Organization

Reporting to the Development Chair of the Board, the Development Manager is a new position responsible for integrating many important aspects of development operations, strategic planning, internal and external relations, and for supporting Board development and special projects concerned with fundraising.  This individual is responsible for securing support for Pilobolus's general operations including on-going projects such as the Annual Five Senses Festival, Annual Gala, Pilobolus Workshops, 50th Anniversary celebration, and touring.


Board Development

  • Support Board development annual goal with Development Committee;

  • Maintain research for Board prospects and review these prospects on a regular basis with Development and Nominating Committees;

  • Create, update, and regularly modify Board orientation materials;

  • Work with General Manager and Co-Artistic Directors to create and implement meaningful Board education activities for Board meetings;

  • Facilitate communications with Board members as appropriate, including quarterly Development Goal reports, special invitations to events, institutional and individual prospect summaries, donor meeting materials.

Individual and Institutional Giving and Operations

  • Manage and oversee gift tracking and fundraising performance goals/benchmarks;

  • Manage prospect list, donor pipeline, and electronic and hard copy mailing lists for individual donors sourced from existing lists and from mining new data as available;

  • Create and oversee quarterly solicitation and acknowledgement materials for individual donors;

  • Devise and update meaningful donor benefits and staff donor recognition and education events designed to enhance the donors' understanding and appreciation of Pilobolus'

  • Supervise and manage Institutional Administrator'

  • Create and maintain departmental budget;

  • Facilitate communications with artistic staff for future projects.

Special Projects

  • Work with staff including Festival Producer, Education & Community Engagement Manager, Co-Artistic Directors, and Company Manager to create meaningful stewardship events for donors who have restricted their support to one of Pilobolus's special activities such as Annual Five Senses Festival, 50th Anniversary, Workshops, or relating to international or domestic touring;

  • Seek, source, and cultivate prospects for special projects;

  • Work with Festival Producer and Connecticut-based community to secure locally-based, new and on-going sources of funding for the month-long summer festival;

  • Oversee all fundraising associated with Annual Gala and coordinate with gala consultant to ensure a seamless event;

  • Schedule meetings and events in advance of Annual Five Senses Festival to create New York City-based audience and fundraising interest;

  • Assist with planning and oversee fundraising for all activities associated with 50th Anniversary.

Development Communications

  • Manage output of social media content on a weekly basis;

  • Create language for social media content reinforcing mission, identity, and public engagement;

  • Assign content responsibility for social media posts in a fair and strategic manner.


  • Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail are essential

  • Ability to work independently and manage simultaneous projects

  • Capacity to set deadlines and manage competing timetables

  • Outstanding telephone and interpersonal skills required to deal with the public, including major and high-profile donors, and with internal colleagues

  • Diplomacy, poise, and good social skills are crucial

  • Ten years experience in fundraising, preferably in the arts


  • Bachelor's Degree 

  • Ability to travel between Manhattan, NY and Washington, CT

  • Excellent computer skills including G-Suite and Network For Good desired
