About us

Lackawanna College - Hazleton Center is looking for a part time Special Education Instructor to teach and support BASD students who are participating in a dual enrollment Career Exploration program called ASPIRE. Lackawanna College is a 4 year non-profit institution of higher education that provides all levels of learning opportunities for the community.

Lackawanna College - Hazleton Center is looking for an experienced Special Education Instructor to join our team in the Berwick, PA area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES: Lackawanna College is looking for a part time Special Education Instructor to provide trainings in Career Exploration, Resume Writing, Interview Skills, Travel Training and other Life Skills for students looking for employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Prepares lesson plans and instructs individuals in a classroom setting.

2. Teaches courses by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

3. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

4. Conducts a needs analysis of each student, develops a plan of action, monitors each students’ progress and addresses deficiencies.

5. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

6. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, and program review.

7. Attend and participate in staff meetings.

8. Meet and maintain required records and documents on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

9. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required.

10. Fosters a professional classroom environment conducive to learning.

11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

1. Demonstrated ability developing innovative instructional approaches or effective practices that address multiple learning styles.

2. Familiarity with Customer Service Program design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

3. Experience in the Service Industry.

4. Excellent spoken and written communication skills.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills.

6. Proficient computer skills.

EDUCATION:

 Bachelors in Business, Hospitality or related discipline required.

EXPERIENCE:

 3 years of experience working in higher education preferred.

 Experience in instruction of non-credit curriculum, customer service, business/industry experience preferred/required.

 Experience teaching non-traditional students for vocational and academic purposes at a community college.

 Experience assessing and using assessment results to improve instruction.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • Day shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Berwick, PA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Special education: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Teaching Certification (Preferred)

Work Location: In person
