Lecturer in Mathematics (Teaching and Research) - UOD891

 

 

The Dundee International Institute of Central South University is an exciting new partnership between the University of Dundee and Central South University in China, which recruited its first intake of students in the academic year 2022/23.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team as a Lecturer in Mathematics in the Institute, responsible for contributing primarily to the delivery and development of the teaching for the Mathematics programme in Changsha. Our expectation is also that the time spent at CSU will foster strong and enduring interdisciplinary links across both partners in the Institute, leading to joint research projects funded by either country, joint PhD students, and collaborations with companies or organisations.

Your priorities will include:

  • To spend one semester each academic year at CSU to deliver teaching in the programmes and develop research collaborations with colleagues at CSU
  • To deliver high-quality and innovative teaching across a range of modules, providing curriculum leadership within own area of expertise
  • To be responsible for the design and quality of course modules in specialist areas of Mathematics
  • To supervise and examine Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students
  • To establish a research portfolio, seek external research fundings and regularly publish research findings through leading peer-reviewed international publications

Who we're looking for:

  • PhD in a relevant subject
  • Ability to teach across a range of Mathematics subjects, with at least two years of experience in teaching at university level, as well as set and supervise projects in a range of topics
  • Evidence of research of internationally excellent quality, including securing external research funding, commensurate with the role applied for
  • Ambitious research plans that are aligned to the School's research strategy and will be competitive for UK or international funding streams, and/or for industrial funding mechanisms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others Further details on the Institute and the role can be found in the accompanying Lecturer Pack.

  • a research plan (1- 2 pages) outlining research strategy for attracting external research funding and high-quality publications;
  • a teaching plan (1-2 pages) outlining previous experience and teaching approach, as well as potential contributions to teaching at the Institute;
  • and names and contact details of at least three references.

We currently plan to have interviews take place in late August or early September 2023.
