Position Summary

THIS IS A TWELVE-MONTH RENEWABLE POSITION CONTINGENT UPON GRANT FUNDING.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Educational Partnerships/Dual Credit, Career Coaches will work directly with area high schools and middle schools in the area of career inventory and exploration, employability skills, financial literacy, and college admission and financial aid processes. The Career Coach will demonstrate an understanding of transition from high school to college to industry.

 
Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • Work with counselors at area high schools and middle schools to coordinate and deliver career inventories and career exploration activities and work with students to connect college opportunities to chosen careers; assist counselors and students with the next step plans.
  • Recruit area professionals as part of the development, scheduling and promotion of career fairs that provide students an opportunity to gain a wide range of information regarding career opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and activities to provide information to students on the dual-credit program and foster the development of employability skills; Prepare resumes, job/internship search, filling out applications, mock interviews, etc.
  • Work with the Director to provide information regarding dual credit classes and education plans; assist students in interpreting placement scores (ACT, PSAT, SAT, Accuplacer, etc.); promote wrap around services that aid students in being successful (Career Services, Tutoring, Student Organizations).
  • Foster student skill development that leads to enhanced performance within college courses and increased levels of independence in the areas of transitioning from high school to full-time college after graduation, navigating through the college admissions process, completing financial aid and scholarship applications, etc.
  • Collect and track data of student engagement to meet departmental and state and federal grant reporting requirements.
  • Work with partnering colleges to promote student organizations within schools, as well as student participation and involvement.
  • Gather and disseminate resources for students interested in transfer to a 4-year partner institution with a 2+2 arrangement, as well as work with the career services department for employability options upon completion of CCC programs.
  • Other grant-related duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, reaching above the shoulders, pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs. with the use of a dolly, and occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
 
SCHEDULE DETAILS:
Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required. Travel in New Mexico and Texas will be required.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree with course work in business, social science, or related area. Bachelor’s degree with minimum of two (2) year experience in higher education environment related to student development or counseling is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is desired. Dynamic presence, creativity, and the ability to connect the target audience are essential.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate with students individually and to present information in a group setting.
  • Must understand the complexities in relation to non-traditional students. Demonstrate and possess a strong understanding of cultural competency, and how to communicate effectively to different audiences.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Critical thinking and interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple tasks required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
