About the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

The college is home to five academic departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geography and the Environment, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy. About the Worrell Lab

The Worrell Lab is located in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Denver. The Worrell Lab specializes in target oriented organic synthesis, photochemistry, catalysis, polymer chemistry, and material science. The lab is highly interdisciplinary, collaborative, and is an inclusive environment.

Position Summary

The Worrell Lab is seeking to hire a new postdoctoral fellow to work in two areas: 1) functional polymer synthesis and 2) polymeric drug delivery. These research areas will be supported by grants from the NIH, NSF, and USDA. Candidates are solicited with backgrounds in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science, biochemistry, and polymeric drug delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in each of these scientific backgrounds. The position is for two years, dependent upon continued funding.

Essential Functions

  • Performing independent research. Analyzing and interpreting research results.
  • Capable and willing to work with, train, and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers.
  • Responsible for a set of lab duties designed to facilitate research.
  • Assisting with paper and grant writing work.
  • Fostering an inclusive laboratory environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledgeable in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, catalysis, polymeric drug delivery, and material science.
  • Laboratory research experience.

Required Qualifications

• Proficient in spoken and written English.
• PhD degree in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science, inorganic chemistry or related areas.
• Knowledgeable in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, catalysis and related areas.
• Laboratory research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in complex organic synthesis and photochemistry

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

University administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work schedule will be determined with supervisor.

In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
