POSITION SUMMARY:

Victoria College is hiring for a full time, benefits eligible SAIL Career Navigator for the Adult Education Department.  This position is responsible for developing and offering new and expanded services to prepare and attract students to postsecondary educational opportunities.  Assists students with the various transitions involved in navigating the higher education environment.  This position will primarily focus on underserved populations including but not limited to, basic skills deficient, high-risk college students, and underemployed workers.

This position is a grant-funded position with a TWC contract that ends June 30, 2021.  Extension of the position is dependent on available funding and effectiveness of the position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct outreach events and activities to ensure targeted populations are being adequately reached according to program parameters

  2. Assist in identifying potential student barriers and assist with solutions to overcome those barriers

  3. Establish relationships with VC departments and assist students with making appointments and completion of admission requirements

  4. Assists learners in setting and pursuing realistic personal, academic, and career goals

  5. Assist with student class schedules

  6. Administer post-assessment surveys and/or interviews to determine effectiveness of interventions and identify/provide appropriate interventions

  7. Plan and implement one-on-one academic advisement sessions

  8. Research, compile, analyze, interpret, and prepare statistical data for monthly collaboration meetings with AEL staff

  9. Maintain appropriate records and files for documentation of program and student accomplishments

  10. Increase student's overall college awareness, readiness, and potential for success

  11. Develop and expand regional employer relationships to offer employment or potential upward mobility upon completion of higher educational goals

  12. Expand relationship with local Workforce Solutions office to determine high demand industry areas and establish referral system for potential AEL students

  13. Complete annual staff development requirements as determined by SBOE rules

  14. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with adult education staff, program participants, business and industry, public and private organizations, and VC staff

  15. Performs all other duties as requested by Director of the Adult Education Program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, communications, or related field

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other divisions within the College

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Discretionary judgment regarding confidential information

  • Ability to accomplish basic business tasks, meet deadlines, and ability to learn and interpret policies and procedures

  • Sensitivity to diverse groups and a genuine caring and empathic attitude

  • Willingness to work evening hours and flexible schedule to meet program demands is required

  • Bi-lingual preferred

  • Valid Texas driver's license and ability to travel off-campus

  • Experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office suites, Internet, and social media

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
