We are accepting applications for a full-time position as Dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Candidates must hold a doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines in the college, with the academic credentials to be a tenured full Professor. Candidates must have administrative experience at the department chair level, its equivalent, or above, and experience with budget management.

Responsibilities: Supervises all operations of the College, which includes the following academic units: Art and Design; Communication, Media, and Languages; English; History, Philosophy, Politics, Global Studies, and Legal Studies; Military Science; Music, Theatre, and Dance; Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology; and University Studies. The Dean provides leadership in recruiting and developing quality faculty, collaborates with the College of Education in administering teacher education programs, coordinates College responsibilities for the General Education curriculum, monitors accreditation processes with the external accreditation bodies involved with programs in the college, and generally teaches 3 semester credit hours per year.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with curricula development, program accreditation, and liberal arts education. The candidate must have exceptional communication skills and be able to demonstrate leadership in areas of team-building, strategic planning, fundraising, grant writing, encouraging faculty scholarly activity, and creating collaborative relationships with external constituencies. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of, and a commitment to, the role of performance-based assessment in academic programs and the role of technology in supporting academic programs.

Desired Qualifications: Analytic ability, record of community engagement, experience with student success performance metrics, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to make logical decisions in a timely manner.

Organizational Relationships

The Dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences & Professor reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Reporting directly to the Dean are the chairs of eight departments, an arts and humanities director/grants, an administrative assistant to the dean and an education program assistant. This position interacts with faculty, administrators, staff, students, alumni and other University constituencies. The Dean primary interest is in meeting the needs of students in the service region as well as focusing on educational trends at the state, national and international level.

Working Conditions

Adequate office staff and facilities are provided. In addition to regular office hours, the Dean has frequent evening and weekend responsibilities.
